On July 15, 2021, with the blessing of His Beatitude, Metropolitan Onufry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, a congress of monasticism of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church began at the Holy Dormition Pochayiv Lavra, which is attended by vicars (hegumens), abbots and representatives of monasteries and hermitages of the UOC.
With the blessing of Bishop Gedeon, the superior of the Monastery of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, archimandrite Alexander, dean of the monastery, went to the congress.
The meeting was headed by the Chairman of the Congress - Metropolitan of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl Pavel, superior of the Holy Assumption Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, chairman of the Synodal Commission for Monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church; Deputy Chairman of the Congress - Metropolitan Volodymyr of Pochaev, superior of the Holy Assumption Pochaev Lavra; Secretary of the Congress - Metropolitan Arseniy of Sviatogorsk, superior of the Holy Assumption Sviatogorsk Lavra.
Before the start of the event a Divine Liturgy and prayer service were performed in the Lavra's Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, after which the delegates bowed to the shrines of the monastery.
The event was attended by 22 hierarchs of the UOC and about 300 vicars (hegumens), abbots and representatives of monasteries and hermitages.
According to the data of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church today there are 258 monasteries and 56 hermitages of our Church in which about 5000 monks and nuns serve.
