Memorial Day Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga

24 July 2022

On July 24, in memory of Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga in the baptism of Elena, the Vladimir-Olginsky Church of the Tithes Monastery celebrated its small patronal feast. The Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga is the grandmother of the great Enlightener of Russia, the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir. The prince paid special attention to his grandmother, concentrating it on the solemn transfer of her honest relics to the first cathedral, built by him in honor of the Most Holy Theotokos, popularly referred to as "Tithing".

The chronicle tells us that: “The prince immediately made sure that the remains of Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga, the first Christian among the noble people, the rulers of Russia, were transferred here, and did not hide them under a bushel, but openly laid them for the sake of those who come to her with by faith and receive healing." Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir performed the transfer of the relics of his grandmother, Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga, together with Metropolitan Leonty. When the burial was opened, they saw that her body was incorruptible. The relics were transferred to a new tomb and solemnly transferred to the Cathedral of the Mother of God of the Tithes. This event took place in 1007. The life of the holy blessed Olga tells us: “We should not forget and keep silent about the fact that there was a window in the church wall above the tomb of blessed Olga; and, if someone with firm faith came to the honest relics, the window opened by itself, and the one who stood outside clearly saw through the window the honest miraculous relics, and those who were especially worthy saw the wonderful radiance emanating from them, and from those who had faith , suffered from some kind of ailment, immediately received healing. And for those who came with little faith, the window was immediately closed, and they could not see the honest relics, if anyone was in the church, they saw only the coffin and did not receive healing ...
